2022 Michel Redde Barre a Mine

Tasting Notes

A masterpiece of Pouilly-Fumé and one of the finest Sauvignon Blancs in the World. Its pale golden hue, accented with green highlights, reflects its brilliance and depth. The nose is captivating and layered, offering an aromatic symphony of ripe citrus, white peach, and crisp green apple, intertwined with flinty smoke, crushed rock, and a whisper of fresh herbs. Elegant floral undertones of acacia and honeysuckle add an extra dimension of finesse. On the palate, this wine is a tour de force, combining exceptional concentration with vibrant acidity and a beautifully textured, chalky minerality. Flavors of lemon curd, grapefruit, and pear unfold gracefully, supported by saline and smoky nuances that underscore its terroir. The finish is remarkably long and precise, leaving a lingering impression of purity, complexity, and power. This is a wine of profound character and pedigree, with the potential to age for 8–10 years or more, growing in sophistication with time. Perfect alongside grilled lobster, truffle-infused dishes, or aged cheeses like Comté, this is a benchmark Sauvignon Blanc.

About Michel Redde

Michel Redde et Fils is a celebrated family-owned winery nestled in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation of France's Loire Valley. Established in the early 1950s by Michel Redde, the estate spans 103 acres of vineyards across varying terroirs. Now led by Michel's grandsons, Sébastien and Romain Redde, the family continues its commitment to producing exceptional Sauvignon Blanc wines that capture the diversity and brilliance of the region's terroir.

One of the estate’s standout cuvées, "Barre à Mine," is a testament to their perseverance and passion. The vineyard landscape was so rocky that dynamite had to be used to reduce the size of the rocks to allow planting. The challenging conditions yielded remarkable results, producing Sauvignon Blanc with unparalleled minerality and complexity. These wines, reflecting the labor and vision of the Redde family, are celebrated as some of the finest expressions of Sauvignon Blanc in the world.
