2014 Michel Redde Barre a Mine
Tasting Notes
A stunningly mature expression of Sauvignon Blanc, showcasing the profound complexity and longevity that Pouilly-Fumé can achieve. Its golden hue, tinged with amber highlights, hints at the wine’s evolution and depth. The nose is exquisitely developed, with aromas of preserved lemon, baked apple, and quince, layered with flinty minerality, toasted almond, and subtle notes of honey and dried herbs. Delicate hints of truffle and a touch of smokiness add an intriguing, savory complexity. On the palate, the wine is rich and harmonious, offering a luxurious texture balanced by a core of vibrant acidity. Flavors of citrus marmalade, dried apricot, and pear are underpinned by a saline minerality and an elegant smokiness that evoke the region's distinctive terroir. The finish is exceptionally long, with lingering notes of citrus peel, toasted nuts, and a whisper of earthy complexity. Now at its peak, this vintage is a profound and unforgettable experience, solidifying its place as one of the world’s finest Sauvignon Blancs. It pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as butter-poached lobster, roasted chicken with truffles, or aged hard cheeses.
About Michel Redde
Michel Redde et Fils is a celebrated family-owned winery nestled in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation of France's Loire Valley. Established in the early 1950s by Michel Redde, the estate spans 103 acres of vineyards across varying terroirs. Now led by Michel's grandsons, Sébastien and Romain Redde, the family continues its commitment to producing exceptional Sauvignon Blanc wines that capture the diversity and brilliance of the region's terroir.
One of the estate’s standout cuvées, "Barre à Mine," is a testament to their perseverance and passion. The vineyard landscape was so rocky (former Silex Quarry) that dynamite had to be used to reduce the size of the rocks to allow planting. The challenging conditions yielded remarkable results, producing Sauvignon Blanc with unparalleled minerality and complexity. These wines, reflecting the labor and vision of the Redde family, are celebrated as some of the finest expressions of Sauvignon Blanc in the world.
