2021 Delmas Syrah

Tasting Notes

Deeply, saturated purple with a savory, umami dominant bouquet: bacon fat, garrigue, olive tapenade, blackberry, minerals, and violets. The wine shows excellent balance between the high fruit intensity, elevated finely grained tannin structure, and vibrant acidity. The palate is densely packed with fruit (blackberry, huckleberry) with significant notes of garrigue, allspice, licorice, black truffle, forest floor, smoked meats, and stony minerality. The superbly long finish resonates richly with notes of Asian spices, bacon fat, garrigue, and lavender. Despite its rather powerful character the wine has remarkable harmony and finesse.

About Delmas

All of Delmas wines originate from their 13-acre SJR Vineyard, which is uniquely situated at the southwest corner of The Rocks District; where the ancient wild river deposited finer soils amongst the cobbles/gravels. Brooke Delmas Robertson, who has taken the helm in guiding the winegrowing efforts for the family, ensures the continuation of their distinguished wines. These wines show a singularly distinctive expression within The Rocks District.
