2017 La Folie LuCé Autrement
Tasting Notes
A rich and complex nose, where vibrant aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and plums intertwine with hints of violets, black pepper, and a touch of tobacco leaf. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-structured, with flavors of dark fruit taking center stage, complemented by notes of cedar, earthy undertone. The tannins provide a smooth texture and excellent balance to the wine's natural acidity. As it opens up, layers of cocoa and a hint of graphite emerge, adding to its depth and complexity. The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering flavors of blackcurrant, spice, and a delicate mineral quality that speaks to its terroir.
About La Folie LuCé
La Folie LuCé was founded in 2009 by Loïc Terquem in the heart of Saumur-Champigny, a renowned Loire Valley appellation. Starting with 2.5 acres of Cabernet Franc, the winery has expanded to 15 acres, including 2 acres of Chenin Blanc, divided into 16 plots with diverse soils. The name "La Folie LuCé" combines the name of one of Terquem's first plots, "La Folie," with the initials of his sons, Lucas and César. Fully certified organic since 2015, the vineyard boasts an average vine age of 40 years, with the oldest Chenin Blanc vines around 60 years old.
Terquem's winemaking philosophy emphasizes creating wines that truly reflect their terroir and the year's climatic conditions. He avoids using yeasts, technical processes, and filtering, striving to produce what he calls "sincere" wines. La Folie LuCé's dedication to organic practices and traditional methods ensures each bottle reflects a deep respect for nature and a passion for quality, offering wine enthusiasts a taste of the rich, vibrant flavors characteristic of Saumur-Champigny.
