2022 Beatus Chateauneuf-du-Pape
Tasting Notes
A beautifully layered wine, offering ripe blackberries, macerated cherries, and dark plums alongside notes of lavender, garrigue, and warm spice. Hints of smoked herbs and black pepper add complexity. On the palate, it’s rich yet balanced, with velvety tannins and vibrant acidity. Juicy black fruits, licorice, and dark chocolate mingle with savory notes of roasted meats and iron. The finish is long and refined, with lingering dried herbs, graphite, and black tea. A stunning, age-worthy Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
About Beatus
Beatus Wines is an exceptional collaboration between renowned winemaker Todd Alexander and the historic Chateau de la Font du Loup in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Beginning as a friendship, this partnership brings together the expertise of Alexander, known for his work with prestigious wineries such as Force Majeure, WeatherEye, Holocene, and Bryant Family Vineyards, and the rich winemaking heritage of Chateau de la Font du Loup, which dates back to the 18th century. The collaboration aims to create wines that embody the unique terroir of Chateauneuf-du-Pape while incorporating Alexander's innovative winemaking techniques and vision.
The wine produced by Beatus is a true reflection of the harmonious blend between Old World tradition and New World innovation. Utilizing grapes from Le Poteau plot - a northerly aspect (allowing for cooler temperatures and longer hang-time) at the very top of La Crau (highest point in the AOC), the winemaking process emphasizes minimal intervention to allow the natural expression of the terroir to shine through. This results in a wine that is elegant, complex, and deeply rooted in the unique characteristics of the Chateauneuf-du-Pape region.
