2019 Champagne Augustin GAIA
Tasting Notes and Description
Buried the day after bottling under the original vineyard (in the soil) - a concept called “géomaturation” for 24 months. This maturation results in a difference in density, a notable depth, and surprisingly more root notes to what is a wild strawberry and red apple nose with a unique minerality and smooth long finish. The soil is the cellar. One of the great champagnes of the World.
About Champagne Augustin
Owned by Marc and Emmanuelle Augustin, the cuvées of Champagne Augustin stand distinctively apart. They encapsulate not just the characteristics of a terroir, a grape variety, a vintage, and unique craftsmanship, but also resonate with the essence of their origin – the locale, the fervor, and the individual behind their creation. These champagnes are a profound expression of life. They embody a potent energy, reminiscent of the four elemental pillars: Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. Biodynamic and organic methods are applied in all phases of what they call “coeur-viculteur” (winemaking from the heart) – where everything is done from the heart with a passion from pruning, trellising, harvesting, pressing, winemaking, resting on lees, disgorging, and shipping; producing energetic and amazing cuvees.
